First day of the Bluebell Railway 50th Anniversary Gala, which saw the return to service of 'Captain Baxter', an intensive train service including shuttles up to Imberhorne Lane, access to behind the scenes areas and visiting locomotives FR No. 20 and RH&DR No. 7 'Typhoon'.

Black 5 No. 44932 hauled the Cathedrals Express from London Waterloo to Bristol and back via Salisbury on Thursday 5th August 2010. We got off at Salisbury and took the opportunity to visit the cathedral there.

A day visit to the North Yorkshire Moors Railway where 76079 and 44871 were in use on the service trains.

Fairburn Tank 42085 was on one of the service trains today during its last weekend on the Bluebell before returning to the Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway. C Class No. 592 was on the other train.

6201 Princess Elizabeth was drafted in to replace 34067 Tangmere on the Cathedrals Express tour to Bristol on 25th March 2010. This presented the rare sight of an LMS 'Princess' on the former Southern Region metals. Seen here at East Croydon on the return leg.

The weather on the Sunday of August Bank holiday weekend deteriorated, but yacht racing on the final day of the Dartmouth Royal Regatta still took place in Start Bay and 6024 King Edward I brought the Torbay Express into Kingswear from Bristol.

Waterborne tug of war in the Boat Float, Air Sea Rescue demonstration on the River, a parachute drop by the Black Knights Parachute Display Team of the Royal Artillery, a display by the Royal Navy EH101 Merlin helicopter, a concert by the Loose Cannons and the closing fireworks display.

Rowing races on the River Dart and air displays by the Royal Navy Merlin EH101, RAF Chinook and RAF Red Arrows.

I took the opportunity to see 60019 Bittern and its support coach passing through Kensington Olympia station on the way to Hornsey depot. This move was prior to the next days White Rose excursion to York.

The Bluebell Railway put on a special gala to mark the 125th anniversary of the opening of the Lewes to East Grinstead railway, of which the Bluebell is the only surviving part. There were 11 engines in steam on the Saturday and despite of the problems with the Sheffield Park watering facilities there was still an intensive service running.

Visit to the Bluebell Railway, where 9017, 1638 and 32473 were in steam.

A few pictures of the Open Day at Old Oak Common Depot in 1994. 6024 King Edward I, 70000 Britannia and ex-GWR pannier tank L99 were in attendance. The last 3 pictures were my first attempts at photography using a disposable camera, the rest are by Dad.

For the 150th Anniversary of the railways reaching Brighton an open day was held at Lovers Walk depot in the summer of 1991. There were several steam engines in attendance including my favourite 70000 Britannia, recently returned to the main line for the first time since the 1960's.

1/10th Electric remote control cars, 8 teams, 3 hour endurance race. The eventual winners were the Eastbourne 'A' team, with Barham 2nd and Sidcup 'A' 3rd.

To commemorate the 70th anniversary of the burning down of the Crystal Palace in south London, an aerial and fireworks display was held on the terraces where the building once was. The aerial display wasn't very exciting but the fireworks were excellent.

First time at GoS and I wasn't disappointed! Guest locomotive was 3440 City of Truro, with 34028 Eddystone not quite ready after having its wheels replaced. Engines in steam: 80151 (as 80154), 1638, 9017 Earl of Berkeley, 3440 City of Truro, 75027, 34028 Eddystone.

Holiday to Stoke Fleming in Devon. Visited Paignton and Dartmouth Steam Railway to see the last Torbay Express of the 2006 season, had a trip on the River Dart, went to Buckfast Abbey and Buckfastleigh Station (South Devon Railway), Dartmouth Castle and Coleton Fishacre National Trust property.

A visit to the KE&SR, where the USA tank was operating, and Bodiam Castle.

On Sunday July 10th 2005 a major event was held in central London to mark the 60th Anniversary of the end of the Second World War. The date chosen was roughly half way between VE and VJ Day's in order that only one event be held. On the Thursday before the event, London suffered the July 7th bombings, so it was a of great importance that this event went ahead to show that London was going about its business as usual. The pictures show events on The Mall and the flypast over Buckingham Palace that ended the days events.

As part of my Year in Industry I went on a course about how railways are run, organised by Lloyds Register Rail at the Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch Railway. Before heading home, we went to the White Cliffs of Dover to get some sunset shots.

The F1 cars come to Regent Street in central London! Past and present F1 drivers showed off the latest hardware before the British Grand Prix that year. There was even a high speed desk!

The main celebration was centred on Buckingham Palace on Tuesday 4th June, when there was a Service of Thanks Giving and a parade down The Mall, before the celebrations closed with a flypast.

On 8th May 1994, 70000 Britannia hauled The Mid-Hants Daylight railtour from Waterloo to Alresford and return. These photos were taken during our stopover on the Mid-Hants Railway while the tour stock was serviced and turned for the return journey.

75069 and 34027 'Taw Valley' hauled three special trains between London and Brighton on the 28th to 30th December 1993. We managed to see 75069 hauling these specials first at Selhurst station on 28th December and then at East Croydon station on the 30th December. Apologies for the poor quality photographs due to the lack of light and the quality of cameras at the time.
